You must have heard about the huge Facebook data breach, in which more then 533 million Facebook users from 106 countries had personal data leaked online, including phone numbers, Facebook IDs, birthdates — you name it.

Now you will be thinking, how to check whether you are part of that breach. There are a couple of sites where you can find out whether your data has been compromised or not.

I Been Pwned is one most famous site that tracks data breaches. Just CLICK HERE and the site will open all you have to do is put in your number with country code or email address. You will not only find if you’ve been part of the Facebook data breach, but also any other breaches in which your data may have been compromised.

Founder of Troy Hunt, was considering whether to include a phone number search (as this comes with certain privacy risks), but ultimately decided to add the feature:

We have one more site that will check your phone number against the leaked Facebook database the-site called The News Each Day, all you have to go is add your phone number and you will come to know if it’s part of the breach. Altho the site is not as well-known, till the time more is known about it, you may want to try the more trusted site Have I Been Pwned.

If you see that your your data has been compromised? You can follow these steps

  1. Change the passwords of compromised sites, use a password manager so that you can create and track unique passwords for each site (so that if one is compromised, it won’t affect any others),
  2. Use two-factor authentication for additional security, and stay alert for news of any other breaches.
